Baltimore based blues and classic rock band Badabing Blues was conceived in the spring of 2004, when guitarist "Mad Max" and his wife, guitarist-turned-bassist Ruth, met drummer Bob Jackson at an open mic at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant in College Park, Maryland. Badabing Blues' three founding members were finalists in the D.C. Blues Society's 2005 "Battle of the Bands" within a year of the band's formation. The band was well on its way to fame when Bob died suddenly and unexpectedly in June 2005. Badabing Blues ground to a halt. Lead singer Bill N. met Max and Ruth through a mutual acquaintance later that year. The band tracked down former bandmate/drummer Kurt W. a few months later, and Badabing Blues was up and running again.
"Mad Max" has been the lead guitarist for JSP recording artist Charlie Sayles, fronted Bethesda-based Mad Max and High Caliber for several years, is the former lead guitarist for the DC Blues Society band, and is one of the Baltimore/DC area's most well-known guitarists. In 1994, Damien Einstein of WHFS radio at the time said that Max had "the best Hendrix raw style I ever heard in my life." He has received writeups by Dan Rodricks of the Baltimore Sun and international accolades.
Lead singer Bill N. has a wide range of vocal styles, ranging from country singer Dwight Yoakum to Robert Plant. Bill once won a televised karaoke contest with his rendition of the R&B classic "Me & Mrs. Jones."
Bassist Ruth V. started out as a classical guitarist and was a founding member of Rockville-based Heart of Blue. She took up bass after hearing Johnny Castle, currently with the Nighthawks, backing up Bill Kirchen at Carter Barron Amphitheater. Since then, Johnny has become her teacher, mentor and friend. Like Johnny, she is not shy about being heard. "Johnny says nothing exceeds like excess," says Ruth. "What's the point of playing bass if no one can hear you?" Ruth plays a six-string bass and is the only female six-string bassist we know.
Drummer Kurt W. has played with several Maryland bands, including Mad Max & High Caliber and the Blast Daddies.
With their repertoire of Jimi Hendrix and Texas-style blues, Badabing Blues is "blues and classic rock with an attitude" and has a large following of Harley riders.
Badabing Blues is a U.S. registered trademark.
